Mick Fanning has proven yet again that consistency and momentum are the key to winning at Bells. The 3 x World Champion was victorious at the Rip Curl Pro riding his newly released FCS II MF Large fin, eventually defeating Taj Burrow in the final.
“My MF template has been working well at Bell’s for years now, and this time was no different. The extra sweep on the fin definitely helps on those open face waves, and its nice to feel that control when you're pushing hard through you're turns".
Mick steadily gained momentum with every heat, firing off lightning fast snaps and laying down his trademark roundhouse carves. His performance was calculated and controlled, and he peaked at precisely the right moment as the semis and final relocated to Winki Pop. Was that a coincidence? We think not!
The newly released FCS II MF Large, with its simple but striking half black/half white aesthetic and unique leading edge bevel, was also popular with 3rd place finisher and fellow FCS team rider Julian Wilson.
The win is Mick’s third at Bells, and after three events the 3 x World Champ now sits in third position on the ratings. Damn, that’s a lot of 3’s, and is perhaps an omen for Fanning's building title defence.
