Toledo Untouchable At Trestles

by Chris D | Sep 17, 2017
The Hurley Pro at Lower Trestles is officially in the record books, and the man who always seemed destined to win the event, Filipe Toledo, was simply untouchable. Speed, power, flow, and Filipe’s high flying air game was on display from round one, and his freakish ability to turn a mediocre wave into a significant score was a driving factor behind the win.

Filipe is now the only surfer with two WCT wins this year. So, with three events to go, and now sitting in 7th on the WSL ratings, Filipe has surfed himself into the World Title conversation as the tour heads to Europe.

For now, let’s put the microscope on Filipe’s winning equipment.

FCS II FT Medium & Large

Sitting in the Accelerator family, right between the Performer and the Carver, Filipe’s signature FCS II fin is really an ‘All-Rounder’, with a little extra area and rake offering more control. For that reason, it’s ideal for punchy waves and committed turns.
Filipe’s fin is also the lightest in the FCS range, it has a high-density foam core, and a medium-to-stiff flex pattern that’s ultra responsive. Two words to describe this fin; Light and Speed.

FCS FT Traction

Filipe’s signature pad balances easy foot adjustments with back foot security when loading up a turn.

Available in three different colours, with visual references that tie back to his signature fin, Filipe’s 3-piece pad has a multi-directional groove, a small size arch bar, perforations for added sensitivity, and is suited to performance shortboards and hybrid models with narrower tails.

FCS 6’ Comp Leash

Thinner cord, narrower cuff and less drag; that’s why the FCS 6’ Competition Leash is a favourite with the pros and surfers wanting a minimalist feel in a leash. With features that include double swivels, and a deluxe high-density neoprene ankle strap with soft lycra edging, this leash will enhance your small wave game.

“If I had to pick a wave that represents my style of surfing, Lowers would be at the top of my list. My equipment is perfectly suited to the way I like to surf out here; explosive power hacks, speed turns, and airs”.

56 WSL World Championship Tour events have now been won by surfers riding the FCS II system and fins.
