Hailing from Brookvale on Sydney’s northern beaches, Matt “The Waxhead” Chojnacki grew up in what can only be described as a time warp of Australian surf culture. With an early introduction to classic longboards courtesy of his father, Matt was inspired by local heroes like Nat Young, Midget Farrelly, Bob McTavish and Terry Fitzgerald. It was northern beaches rich surf culture that helped shape Chojnacki’s approach to surfing and his ongoing dedication to preserving surf culture.
Riding all surfboards and fin configurations forms part of Matt’s philosophy ‘riding the right board for the conditions’ although he maintains a successful career competing at WSL level and Invitational longboard events around the world. His trademark style is evident across all equipment he choses from sub 5 feet fishes to heavy water guns
Between chasing swells and tweaking surfboards with mentor and shaper Bob McTavish, Chojnacki can be found restoring classic vehicles that resemble his surfing – classic, timeless and stylish.
