Filipe Flies To Rio Win

by Chris D | May 17, 2015

Event Overview

Filipe Toledo has put himself one step closer to his first World Title by winning the 4th event on the WSL World Championship Tour; the Oi Rio Pro in Brazil. In the final Toledo defeated an in-form Bede Durbidge riding the FCS II Performer PCC and MF Medium templates.

Event Location
The waves at Barra da Tijuca ranged from 2 – 6 feet with variable winds during the event window. The shifting peaks typically break fast on the hard compacted sand banks, and are unpredictable and quite difficult to ride. Early heats enjoyed hollow offshore barrels, later heats were prone to slight onshore winds favoring a more aerial approach.

What did Filipe ride?

Filipe used the FCS II Performer PCC Medium throughout the event for its reliability. This versatile fin offers a blend of speed, flow and response, and is suited to a wide range of conditions.

On the days when the waves were bigger Filipe switched to the FCS II MF Medium template. This fin has a high degree of sweep, providing more control and a longer turning arc.

In this event Filipe was riding the new FCS II Orange Tang plug. The new FCS II colored plugs add a splash of colour to any new board, and are now being used by most of the WSL tour surfers.

The FCS 6’ Competition leash is widely used by professional surfers due to its thinner cord and low drag properties. The leash features a double swivel and deluxe high-density neoprene ankle strap with soft lycra edging

Soon to be release, the new three-piece FCS T-3 Traction pad features all new softer EVA materials, perforations for added sensitivity, multidirectional grooves, and sanded surfaces for added grip.

Featuring excess tail rocker and deep concaves, this board was created with Filipe’s input so he could generate maximum speed and enhance his aerial maneuvers.

”I’m stoked with all of my equipment. The Performer PCC worked great as the conditions changed through the week, but I was mainly riding the MF Medium template because I was looking to get more projection out of my turns and airs”.

23 WSL World Championship Tour events, and 5 WSL World Titles, have now been won by surfers riding the FCS II system and fins.
